(1) You'll get more controllable and usually nicer-looking results with FFD. You could always download the Trial Version first and see what works for you.
You should also ask Nate/Shiu about upgrade options in case you're not ready to commit to the Pro version yet.
(2) Impoting Spine assets into Unity isn't difficult. It recently got a lot faster and more convenient so that really isn't an issue.
But yes. You do also have an option to export as a classical sprite, and forgo all the benefits of a real skeletal animation system.
