Spine is a fantastic tool. I only started using it 2 years ago working with IGG on their game Mythic Heroes. I was there from day 1 of animation production until beginning of this year. I found it to be exceptionally stable while being as complex or as simple as I wanted or needed. Bugs were rarely more than slight nuisances and the team here has been fantastic at responding to questions and even making quality of life improvements.
I found that having an idea of what sort of assets and effects will need to be on screen and what expectation you have for finished animation will ultimately confirm how much of a fit Spine is for you; You will find it an exceptional and widely used software meaning more options for knowledgeable outsourcing and freelancing.
The biggest limitation you'll find is keeping spritesheet export sizes small for mobile games that are also effects heavy - however that's a limitation for ALL softwares. Beyond that, versions 3.8 and beta 4.1 are an absolute treat of a software to work with.
