I was wondering if someone could help on how to implement “head-turning“ for bones with weighted meshes on a human head (similar to “Hero-Pro” ’s head). Since I want to use this animation with skins, I would not be able to use “mesh distortion” animations for this but I would be able to use weighted meshes and bones. I will list what I have tried below.
Goal:
—Something like Spine’s example project “Hero-Pro” ’s “head-turn” animation. Unfortunately, that project uses mesh distortion animations, which are not compatible with skins. I would like to recreate this without mesh distortions, and instead only with bones and weighted meshes because I want to use animations compatible with skins.
The Specific Style I am Aiming Towards:
—In case this is helpful, I have attached 4 official images (NOT made by me) at the bottom of this post from the videogame "XCOM: Chimera Squad". I am aiming towards a realistic/cartoon/comics style similar to those images.
What I Have Tried:
Mainly, I am currently trying to alter existing projects to learn how to implement this “head-turn” myself.
—I have looked at the “elderly-lady-rosalba-carrera-painting” project. Unfortunately, you can’t turn the lady’s head as far left and right as I would like with the head-control bone. If you do move the head-control bone too far, the lady’s face starts to distort.
—Spine’s example project “Mix-and-Match-Pro”. Like the painting listed above, it uses “Face Control”, as described here (Mix and Match example: Face control). My goal is to use a head shape similar to “Hero-Pro” ’s head. Unfortunately, “Mix-and-Match-Pro” ’s head is not/does not need to be animated to accomplish a “head-turn” because of its stylized round shape. Since my goal head shape will look like “Hero-Pro” ’s head, the head itself will need to be animated to accomplish a “head-turn”. I have tried binding the “Mix-and-Match-Pro” ’s head to
—only the “head-control” bone
—the “head-control” bone AND the “head-back-control” bone
Unfortunately, this did not help because it merely widened the head instead of distorting it like I would like.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I could go about accomplishing “Hero-Pro” ’s head turn so it would be compatible with skins?
